MICHAEL JACKSON ‘ONE’

by Lucy on May 25, 2013

Cirque du Soleil’s new Michael Jackson show, ONE, is as close to perfection as MJ would have expected from himself. If you are a die-hard fan of his, you’ll appreciate the story line: the adventures of four young “misfits” who are inspired, and finally empowered to transform themselves through the music of Michael Jackson. The performances are stellar… well, as close as any normal human could get to MJ’s genius and talent.

My friend, the general manager, Matt Nickel, had been associated with Cirque’s Mystere for many years. He left there to add his expertise and knowledge to this show. But in his always generous manner, he suggested I give credit to the director and writer, Jamie King. In my humble opinion, he nailed it! This is a collaboration directly with the The Estate of Michael Jackson; their input is obvious as Michael’s message of compassion, justice, sweetness, hope, and love are demonstrated through their choice of songs.

The absolute highlight of the show was when Michael Jackson danced in hologram! I don’t know how else to describe this unbelievable technological miracle!! It was as if he was really there!!! You just have to see it to appreciate this…I don’t even have the words…amazing phenomenon.

I’ve lived in Las Vegas for seventeen years and have seen numerous shows, too many to count. I believe this show is going to be one for the record books. And if any of you still have reservations regarding the unfounded allegations in his past, my advice, if you are a person who appreciates pure talent, is to open your mind and experience Michael for the creative genius that only comes around once in a lifetime.

The title, ONE, is the message that “WE’RE ALL ONE”. This is his legacy, his hope, that the people of the world will see past individual and cultural differences and embrace each other for the unique creations we all are. Seems strange that a Las Vegas spectacular would be so deep and full of emotion; but that’s exactly who Michael Jackson was.

Live purposefully,

Lucy
